Sister gifts a feral kitten for a grieving pet owner who didn't want a new cat, but the kitten falls in love with the older housecat and leaves the woman no choice but to adopt: 'I can't wait for the day she looks at me the way she looks at him'

We say this as people who love cats and love adopting cats and think that cats are the best: do not gift cats to people. Generally speaking, we think that is something that you should not spring on people as a surprise. Adopting a cat, at the end of the day, should be the decision of the person who is going to have the cat live with them. Of course, sometimes, it works, and you get wholesome stories of people receiving kittens as gifts and completely falling in love. We get that too. If someone gave us a kitten as a gift right now, we would probably be happy, but that's because we are at the right time for it in our lives. 

We completely understand why the woman in this story was reluctant in accepting the kitten that was gifted to her by her sister. She wasn't ready, not after the loss she experienced. And that's okay. And yet… although she might not have been ready, her cat clearly was, and so the cat called dibs, and the kitten stayed, and now, slowly but surely, the kitten is winning over everyone.

We get it, and we can only say this… we're glad you kept the kitty. We're glad you gave the kitty a chance. And we are sure that, when the time comes, you two will make each other very, very happy.

    My sister, in all her wisdom, thought the best way to cheer me up was to show up at my door three days later with a feral kitten that wanted nothing to do with me.   • Oh, we would have been heartbroken as well. And as much as we are generally against friends/siblings giving cats out as presents, we have to say that in this case… it turned out pretty good. And it will only ever get better from here on out.

    Me and Figs have always been roommates. He's a one person cat, and despite the years we've spent together, more often than not just the two of us, I will never earn the singular honor of being his human no matter how much he likes me.

He's my sister's cat, but lives with me because her dog, who's his second favorite thing in the world, stresses him out. I'm his second favorite person, but he could live with me for the next decade and would hiss at me and run to him mom the second my sister walked through the door.
